About me
It’s story time!
I’m hopeful it’s helpful.
In 2007, I was diagnosed with a rare, incurable, chronic blood cancer.
I kept the physical and mental health rollercoaster under wraps for years. I thought that would protect my son and keep my career safe. I mastered the art of being ‘All good.’
It was hard work, exhausting, and impossible to maintain.
Here’s the other thing though. My specialists for the physical stuff have been awesome. But mental health options are much harder to find.
What we have is excellent, but there aren’t enough options on the table.
Eventually, I figured it was time to stop hiding and use what I could to be part of the solution.
So, I embraced the challenges and the opportunities cancer presented, and learned what the art of living well looked like for me.
I closed the chapter on my previous career and opened to a fresh page: The Country Counsellor.
The Country Counsellor offers strengths- and evidence-based counselling. Due to my personal experiences, I am particularly interested in working with people whose lives have been affected by cancer.
Did I quickly wrap my head around my ‘new normal’ and learn to live differently?
Nope, it took me years.
Was it a graceful, inspiring journey of growth?
Not gonna lie. It was messy.
Now, no more hiding. For me, or for you.
You’ve got this. And I’ve got your back.
